Indeed, encountering perfection is not possible--at least in this life. However, the very fact that we seek after perfection betrays its very existence--albeit in another dimension. This higher realm of existence, the transcendent, is the source from which all our common values are derived. It's what drives us to bring order out of chaos and beauty out of brokenness. We touch the transcendent through emotions expressed in art, music, and literature, seeking something beyond our physical reality. This is the ethos of romanticism. But the pursuit of perfection does not end in beauty--but benevolence--in unconditional love.
